The evening performances also provided the participants and the community a chance to see a traditional large shadow puppet show by firelight—an experience that has become quite rare, as there are very few troupes left in Cambodia who perform large shadow puppetry in the old, traditional ways. Although this uniquely Khmer art form has been declared by UNESCO a masterpiece of intangible cultural heritage, it was still the first opportunity for many of the students to experience it.
