Cham Roun Sophear > Students view former Tonle Bassac community
CLA Students Sophear, Kavich, and Pich survey what is left of the community that had been bulldozed the previous day (Jan. 24, 2009). Sophear's building, still standing, can be seen behind the trees in the top left corner.
CLA began preparing for forced evictions in this community three years ago by opening its first residential and teaching center. With CLA's help, all of the masters previously living here had found new homes by the time the bulldozers arrived. Classes had already relocated to the CLA center, a few blocks away.
As residents disperse, CLA Center has become an increasingly import source for community gathering and support for students.
