OUR WORK: Culture & Arts Education

PROGRAM: Culture & Arts Education
AIMED AT:Students, teachers, and local communities

In January 2017, we launched a five-year pilot program to develop a model for culture and arts education in the public education system. We are working in partnership with the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and UNESCO, and we will collaborate with arts and culture organizations from around Cambodia with a range of different experiences.

The project has two focus areas:

Culture & Arts Education Policy: including national curriculum development, teacher training and advocacy

Culture & Arts Education Practice: including after school clubs and workshops, artist talks, film screenings and arts programming including performances and exhibitions in schools.

The “practice” part of the program takes place in Cluster Centers that open up activities to schools and communities in the surrounding area. We are starting with two centers:

  • Preah Sisowath Center – on the campus of Sisowath High School in Phnom Penh
  • Sisophon Culture Center – in Srey Sisophon, Banteay Meanchey (in partnership with Krousar Thmey)

We aim to have six centers running by the end of the project.

Current program partners include KAPE – New Generation Schools, Bophana Center, Epic Arts, Krousar Thmey, and  Phare Ponleu Selpak. The program is supported by Common Sense Fund and Rei Foundation.
