BANGSOKOL
A Requiem for Cambodia
Bangsokol: A Requiem for Cambodia is an extraordinary new composition fusing music, voice, movement, and film. It is the first major symphonic work to address the traumas of the late 1970s in Cambodia, blending elements of Cambodian traditional music with the Western requiem and bangsokol, a ceremony accompanying Buddhist funeral rites. It tells a universal and urgent story; the story of a society confronting moral devastation and reclaiming its humanity through reconciliation and healing.
